Common Chiropractic Conditions
Traditional chiropractic treatments are used for common spine related conditions. We have reviewed that MLS Laser Therapy can be integrated - if needed - in the treatment of all of the common back and joint pain conditions. Let’s take a look at some of the ones that you are likely considering for relieving and healing your painful condition.
Disc Problems
Intervertebral discs are small cushions positioned between the vertebrae in the spine. The outside of the disc is made from cartilage, and in the center is a jelly like solution. Theses discs serve many purposes, including allowing movement of the spine, creating space between the vertebrae, and acting as shock absorbers. The gelatinous middle (nucleus) allows the disc to compress and expand based on impact and movement. Unfortunately, trauma to the spine can cause the discs to herniate, bulge, become protruded/displaced (slipped disc ), or even rupture. Trauma or direct injury to the area is not the only cause, however. As we get older the discs can weaken and dehydrate. These conditions can put pressure on the nerves around the spine and cause pain.
If you suffer from one of these injuries you should see a chiropractor. Surgery has become less risky, but is still expensive, and requires recovery time. At Brookview Chiropractic, we experience every day the improvements in combining both traditional chiropractic manual therapies (what we call spinal manipulation or spinal adjustments), with more advanced therapies such as decompressive traction. And success rates with discs tremendously improved with MLS Laser therapy integrated into the care plan. Because the tissue in the disc absorbs light at the 808/905nm wavelengths and that light triggers metabolic reactions in the cells that stimulates healing as well as pain/inflammation reduction. MLS M6 Laser is the “missing link” in treating disc pain conditions. In the majority of disc cases you will experience relief from these conditions through chiropractic. By properly aligning the spine, combined with Laser, pressure can be relieved on nerves and on the discs themselves. This will reduce and in most cases eliminate your pain and discomfort and allow you to live a normal lifestyle. Gains are maintained with stretching and core strengthening exercises you will be instructed in that you can do at home. These are specific tailored to your personal condition. All of our disc patients receive exercise instruction for long term stability and prevention of recurrence. This helps minimize the likelihood for repeat episodes and reduces your dependence on treatments and medications.
Neck/Back Pain
There are many causes of neck and back pain but the ones we commonly see are due to overuse/postural strain with misalignments of the vertebrae. A small jamming or dysfunction of the joints in the spine (facet joints) can cause pain and muscle cramping by irritating the adjacent nerves. Left untreated, these dysfunctions reduce the mobility in your spine and your back responds with muscle spasm, fibrositic or “trigger point” areas and local or referred pain. Chiropractic adjustments properly align and release pressure from the joints - the characteristic “popping sensation” that so often accompanies relief! We administer deep mobilization massage as a preparation to the chiropractic adjustments, so they release more thoroughly and allow the treatments to “settle in”. If needed, MLS Laser therapy is used to relieve inflammation in the joints and the adjacent muscle pain for even better lasting relief. The rapid improvements we see with increased flexibility, elimination of muscle spasm is truly gratifying and makes these conditions easy and fun to treat. These are really our bread and butter conditions and our patients keep us enthused to treat them for simple neck and back pain. It is a direct treatment for the cause of the pain, not a temporary relief like pain relievers. And we are always ready to demonstrate the exercises you need to counteract posture strains from working at the computer (flexion neck), everyday bending and lifting exertions. Knee Pain
Chronic, Painful Knee Pain: Meaningful Relief in the First Treatment? Yes, that is achieved routinely here with the Knee-On-Trac device when combined with our MLS Robotic Laser. If d you have knee pain, can’t walk because of an old injury, or just think it’s a part of arthritis and getting old, we have the answer. Knee pain is something that disables lots of people every single day, but most people don’t know what to do about it. Some people immediately opt in for surgery, then some people watch TV and end up buying something they wrap their knee with - hoping it will help, and others just follow orders and take medications that only mask their KNEE PAIN symptoms as their condition worsens.
What if there was a “real solution” that worked from Day One?
Hi. I’m Dr. Dave Tucker here at Brookview Chiropractic Clinic. I’m very excited and pleased to introduce you to a system of knee therapeutics that utilizes the Knee-On-Trac. I was introduced to this one-of -a-kind device at an advanced Knee Pain conference I attended in Salt Lake City. It really works when it comes to actually helping align the knee, take pressure off the knee and when combined with our MLS Laser - reduces pain and inflammation within the knee joint. In fact, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) updated their guidelines for osteoarthritis of the knee joint for the first time since 2013 to now INCLUDE LASER THERAPY. That is because it is a clinical procedure that has proven to be effective in practice. And it is entirely safe and pain free. It routinely reduces knee stiffness over 90% so I am positive it will help you walk better, even with your first treatment, plus help you do some things you used to do without the help of a walker, cane or someone else helping you. The conditions we effectively treat are:
- Osteoarthritis
- Chronic Knee Pain
- Meniscus tears
- Previous Injury
- Failed Surgery
- ACL Injuries
I’m not guaranteeing a miracle if you haven’t walked in twenty years . . . But this may be the answer you’ve been looking for. Better late than never for sure. Let me be very clear. This therapeutic is here to help you:
- get out of pain
- walk better
- move better
- get up and down better
- get out of chairs easier
AND…
- Finally, you will be able to move without relying on someone or something else
Will this work for you? Great question and here’s the answer. We have a reputation for getting quick results. Based on thorough evaluation and accurate diagnosis, patient selection is important and determines who is likely to succeed and respond well. Then we offer you a free trial. If you qualify, (and most people do) I’ll give you your first treatment for FREE. No strings attached, and if it doesn’t work, you shake my hand and walk out owing me nothing. The Knee-On-Trac is a tried and true device and that is why I can offer you this with such a high degree of confidence.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a condition that results when the sciatic nerve in the low back becomes pinched or irritated. Protruding discs, vertebral joint problems, sacroiliac sprains can all cause increased pressure/irritation on the sciatic nerve. When this happens you get pain radiating from the lower back into the glutes and leg, with perhaps numbness and weakness into the calf foot and toes. To properly treat sciatica the cause of the condition needs to be diagnosed properly.. At Brookview Chiropractic, we have the appropriate diagnostic skills to evaluate and manage sciatica. We know when to obtain x ray and in rare instances, will order MRIs. We have privileges with our 2 main local medical clinics to obtain imaging, including plain film x ray, MRI and CT on a direct basis with just a phone call for scheduling. Some conditions such as sacroiliac subluxation/sprain may respond well to just a simple chiropractic maneuver. Others such as disc protrusion may treat with combined care including gentle manipulations, DTS decompressive traction to draw the disc back into place. MLS Laser is applied to reduce inflammation around the nerve roots, easier and safer to apply than corticosteroid injections, and most often very effective. As with most all of the musculoskeletal conditions, exercises are staged for stretching during the acute phase progressing to core stabilization in the rehabilitation phase for long term maintenance at home or in a health club setting.
Headaches
Many people believe headaches are caused by loud noise, being tired, or being stressed. While these are all factors that can aggravate headaches, the direct cause is often tightness in the neck and shoulders. The tightness can cause misalignments in the vertebrae of your neck, resulting in pain. 80% of all headaches originate from the neck. With a typical cervicogenic (neck origin) headache, a person usually feels pain starting at the base of the skull which radiates into the temples, eyeballs and forehead. Massage of the neck and shoulder muscles can release tension, and a chiropractic adjustment can realign the vertebrae and release pressure in the spinal joints (facet joints). MLS Laser therapy has special settings just for headaches rendering the trigger points at the base of the skull relaxed and released. MLS is entirely safe and can be applied both by the hand held Laser, or robotic application using the Ultra-Head for larger areas of the neck. Chiropractic can help eliminate the cause of your headaches rather than just offering a temporary symptom covering medication.
Whiplash
Whiplash is a common injury for people involved in car collisions. When a car is struck from behind or collides with another object, it causes the neck to snap back and forth violently. This causes the muscles and ligaments to overextend, leading to sprains and tears. This is referred to as soft tissue damage, and can cause stiffness and soreness. Whiplash can also cause damage such as misaligned vertebrae (abnormal translation or slippage), disc tearing or bulging, or even nerve damage due to the overextension from violent movement.
Dr. Tucker has special training in the evaluation and treatment of whiplash. He has completed Certification course, Biomechanics of Low Speed Impacts: Injury Mechanisms. University of California Riverside Dec 2007. He is also certified in the Rating of Permanent Impairment from injury conditions. This is important because the chiropractor managing your vehicle-related injury may also be called upon to provide a Medical Narrative Report describing the injuries you have sustained in the legal area, and Dr. Tucker has compiled hundreds of these reports to fairly and accurately describe the impacts of these injuries on his patients. Dr. Tucker has given conferences to many area attorneys on Whiplash Trauma to provide them with the specialized knowledge they need to understand the medical aspects of whiplash injuries, with credits for Continuing Legal Education.
Chiropractic is the preferred treatment for whiplash injuries. Adjustments and alignments can be performed specifically for patients with neck and back injuries. The pressure on the joints, discs and nerves is released when the spine is returned to proper motion and alignment. Massage is used to relieve pain and spasm from soft tissue injuries. Medication use is minimized and joint function is restored.
Osteoarthritis
Arthritis is a condition that is caused by the wearing down of the cartilage between joints. Some of the major joints that are affected are the knees, hips, back neck and hands/wrist. Arthritis can be painful and can cause the affected areas to not function properly. Arthritis in one area can cause arthritis or referred pain in a different area. For instance, if you have arthritis in your left knee, you man compensate for this by putting more pressure on your right side, leading to right hip problems.
Traditional chiropractic has done a good job for arthritis in the spinal joints (facet arthrosis.) It has not had much to offer to the other joints such as knees and shoulders - Until Now. With the availability of MLS Laser Therapy, we can now successfully treat the majority of painful joint conditions! That is because the pain from OA is predominantly from inflammation in the joint. The joints are filled with synovial fluid and when they become inflamed because of wear-and-tear arthritis, they hurt. MLS M6 Laser addresses this inflammation directly by flushing it out at the cellular level. Patients experience reduction of joint pain and swelling, with many experiencing immediate increases in range of motion (flexibility) from the very first treatment. Orthopedic Surgeons, as well as Doctors of Chiropractic using the MLS Laser, are on a mission to spread the word on opioid sparing treatments. As Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Sigman states, “Patients are aware, and patients are worried about opioid addiction.” Dr Tucker here at Brookview Chiropractic Clinic shares that sentiment that he never wants them to find out if they are one of the patients who will be become addicted to opioids. Built on a 30-year foundation of scientific research, the patented MLS pulse-pattern Laser has been proven safe and effective for a wide range of pain-related osteoarthritis conditions. That includes shoulder, knees, wrists and hands. And of course it also is great for arthritis in the joints of the spine.
In coordination with MLS Laser therapy, chiropractic can alleviate pain by releasing irritation to the nerves with proper alignment. We have gentle extremity manipulations for restoration of movement to all of the major joints. We are not concerned strictly with the affected area, but rather the body as a whole. We aim to restore and maintain proper movement and functionality to increase your overall well being. When you can move without pain, you can walk and get the exercise you crave. Every aspect of your health benefits, from your nervous system to your cardiovascular health.
